THE CARGO COMMUNITY SYSTEM
OF THE PORT AUTHORITY OF GENOA
Il
Cargo Community System is a community system designed
to manage data and information transfers between the
information systems of interested operators as rapidly
as possible while ensuring the autonomy, security
and confidentiality of those systems.
The Port Authority of Genoa is promoting the development of this communication tool among Genovese operators in order to improve operating efficiency and to increase traffic in the port.
How it works
The Genovese CCS consists of:
- a central system to telematically shunt documents;
- a group of data processing services for the supply of value-added services;
- a database updated with information supplied by users, following a specific authorisation.
The central system, i.e. the network linking the various operators in the transport chain, is managed by a central clearing house: this EDI service centre records transactions (exchange of messages) among users, manages value-added services and monitors the network in order to generate statistics and to perform invoicing operations.
Implementation
of open architecture allows operators
to start processes in their information systems based
on messages telematically received from other partners:
this reduces errors while exchanging information and increasing
reliability, decreases the costs caused by delays, mistakes
and paper documents, provides immediate access to such
data and, as a consequence, speeds up the flows of both
goods and information.
