This building, the headquarters of the Port Authority of Genoa, located in the centre of the medieval port area, between Molo Vecchio and Commenda di Prè, was constructed as Genoa’s first public building in 1260.

The structure was built thanks to the efforts of the local militia commander, Guglielmo Boccanegra, and the technical skills of Friar Oliverio, a Cistercian monk from the Abbey of S. Andrea di Sestri, who was already involved in the first extension of Molo Vecchio.
